How to use the online scoreboard

  1. Pick a sport. The preset sets the scoring buttons, the game clock and the rules. Every value can be changed in Settings.
  2. Type the team names. Choose team colors in Settings if you like.
  3. Add points by tapping a team’s big score, pressing its buttons, or using the keys below.
  4. Press Space (or Start clock) to start and stop the game clock.
  5. Press N for the next period once the buzzer sounds.
  6. Press F for full screen. The buttons fade away after 3 seconds, leaving names, scores and the clock.

Made a mistake? Press U to undo, as many as 100 times, and Shift+U to redo.

The game saves itself in this browser after every change, so a reload or a closed tab doesn’t lose it. Press New game in Settings to start over.

On a phone or tablet, turn it sideways. Tap a score to add points, swipe down on it to take one away, and press and hold it to type a score.

Keyboard shortcuts

The left hand scores for Home and the right hand scores for Guest. Shortcuts pause while you type in a box, like a team name. The scoring keys follow key positions, so they also work on keyboards with other layouts.

Game clock, periods and shot clock

The game clock counts down or up. Under a minute, a countdown shows tenths of a second, like 9.4. At 0.0 it stops, sounds the buzzer and shows “End of Q1”; press N to start the next period with a full clock.

To set the time, stop the clock and press it, then type the time as minutes and seconds, like 7:30. The −1s and +1s buttons fix small errors.

The clock keeps the right time even if the tab is in the background. The buzzer sounds after your first click or key press, because browsers block sound until then.

Soccer and the other count-up presets keep running past the period length, for stoppage time. Press N when the referee ends the half.

Basketball: fouls, bonus and shot clock

Each team’s fouls show under its score; press Z or M, or the Foul buttons, to add one. At the bonus threshold, 5 by default, the team’s line shows BONUS. Fouls reset when you press N for the next period.

Turn on the shot clock in Settings: 24, 30 or 35 seconds. It runs and stops with the game clock and has its own, higher buzzer. Press R to reset it to full or Shift+R for 14 seconds; X moves the possession arrow.

Volleyball, pickleball and table tennis: sets and win by 2

A set ends only when a team reaches the target and leads by 2, so 25–24 plays on and 26–24 wins. When a set is won, the board shows “Set to Home 25–23” and waits: press Start next set when the teams are ready. The sets won show under each score, and the match ends with “Home wins 3–1”.

Cornhole: cancellation scoring

Each round, enter how many bags each team landed on the board (1 point) and in the hole (3 points), then press Score round. Only the difference counts, and the first team to 21 wins.

For example, Home has 2 on the board and 1 in the hole (5 points) and Guest has 1 on the board (1 point): Home scores 4, Guest scores 0.

Players mode: a score tracker for classes and game nights

Switch the board to Players to track 3 to 12 players or teams. Each card has an editable name, a big score and buttons to add or take away points. Keys 1 to 9 add a point to players 1 to 9, and Shift takes one away.

Press Sort by score to put the leader first. The leader’s card has a yellow border, which makes it easy for a class to see who’s ahead.

Show the scoreboard on a TV, projector or stream

Connect your laptop to the TV or projector with HDMI and set the display to Extend. Press Display window: a clean board without buttons opens in its own window. Drag it to the TV and click it once for full screen.

Keep scoring from the laptop; the display updates straight away, with no internet connection needed between them. If your browser blocks the window, allow pop-ups for this site, or drag this browser window to the TV and press F.

Between games, blank the projector with a black screen so the room isn’t lit by a bright desktop.

To stream a game, choose the green background for the display window in Settings. In OBS, add a Window Capture source for that window and a Chroma Key filter to remove the green. Check your stream camera first with the webcam test.

Frequently asked questions

How can I create a scoreboard online?

Open this page, pick a sport, and type the team names. The board is ready at once. Tap a score or press Q and P to add points, and press Start clock to run the timer. There's no account or setup. The game saves in this browser, so a reload or a closed tab doesn't lose the score.

What is the best free scoreboard app?

The one that fits your game and the screen you have. For most gyms, classrooms and backyards, a browser scoreboard on a laptop connected to a TV does the job without an install. Look for big digits, a game clock, undo, keyboard shortcuts and no sign-up. This page has all of those, plus sport presets.

How much do digital scoreboards cost?

Prices depend on the size, the type and whether the board is wired into the building. They range widely, from small tabletop units to gym boards. A browser scoreboard costs nothing extra if you already have a laptop and a TV or projector. Many teams use one while they decide whether a dedicated board is worth it.

Can I keep score for more than two teams or a classroom?

Yes. Switch the board to Players to keep score for 3 to 12 players or teams. Each card has its own name and buttons, and keys 1 to 9 add a point to players 1 to 9. Press Sort by score to put the leader first; the leader's card is highlighted. It works well for quizzes and game nights.

Is there an online basketball scoreboard with a shot clock?

Yes. Pick Basketball, open Settings and choose a 24, 30 or 35-second shot clock. It runs and stops with the game clock. Press R to reset it to full, or Shift+R to reset it to 14 seconds, and it sounds its own buzzer at zero. Team fouls show BONUS once they reach the threshold you set.

Can I use the scoreboard in OBS or on a stream?

Yes. Press Display window to open a clean board without buttons, and pick the green background in Settings. In OBS, add a Window Capture source for that window, then add a Chroma Key filter to remove the green. The display stays in sync with the control window, with no server in between.

Does the online scoreboard need a download or internet?

No download or sign-up is needed: it runs in your browser. Once the page has loaded, the board, the clock and the buzzer keep working even if the Wi-Fi drops. The game saves in this browser after every change. A reload or a crashed tab picks up exactly where you left off, clock included.
